Boulder Community Knitting

    Our final finished item collection for the year will be Sunday, November 28 from 2-3 at Viele Lake/Harlow Platts Park in South Boulder. If you want to donate new children's books (or money for children's books), this will also be the final collection for them this year. If you want your finished items to be included in our big holiday donations, you'll need to make this dropoff time or make arrangements with Roylene for an alternate dropoff.    Our December meeting will be for planning purposes. All are welcome to attend, but we do not have a project for the meeting. It is Wednesday, December 8 from 5-6:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library.    Missed November's meeting? Remember that we encourage using 100% wool for mittens because it stays warm when wet and makes for more useful mittens!  Thank you all for your generosity this year.   Our November meeting will be this Wednesday, November 10, from 5:00 to 6:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. We will be making mittens, and printed patterns will be available at the meeting. You will need to bring 3 ounces of bulky weight wool yarn and double pointed needles in size US 9 or 10 (5.5 or 6 mm).  The past several years we have also included children's books in our holiday donation to Clinica. If you would like to contribute, you can bring new children's books or a monetary donation for books.  Hope to see you there!

  Hi all, It's bear month! Come and learn how to knit these sweet stuffed bears. Meeting THIS WEDNESDAY (sorry for the late notice) at the Boulder Library Meadows branch meeting room from 4:30-6:00. You will need to bring worsted weight acrylic yarn and US 5 or 6 (3.75 or 4 mm) double point needles. People usually choose something neutral - white, cream, brown, or gray - for the bear and go colorful with the sweater, but you can use whatever colors you like.  Hard copies of the pattern will be available. Experienced bear knitters will be there to help. You're not required to make a bear! It's a fun challenge and a popular project, but if you prefer, you can always make a simple hat - it's starting to get cold and hats are always needed.  Hope you can make it! And here's a super simple backup hat pattern that works in bulky weight or doubled worsted weight with US 10 or 10.5 (6 or 6.5 mm) needles. It's nice and warm and knits up fast. This is an easy one to knit ...

Hi all,  Sorry for the late notice on this one, but we will be meeting AT MEADOWS LIBRARY (change of location!) this Wednesday, September 15 from 3:00-4:00. Our September project is a hat. You will need a US 7 or 8 (4.5 or 5 mm) circular needle and about 2 ounces of machine washable worsted weight yarn in one or more colors. As you can see from the picture above, this is a good pattern for leftovers!  Hope to see you there!

  From Tywla: Our blankets were presented to the Lafayette Police Chief Bashor and Commander Sellers by Mary Farnan today! (Pictures above taken by Carol Sellers) Mary gave them a copy of the post about the beginning of the project so they would know about the significance of tens in the pattern. We also gave them a card with the names of the ten who lost their lives at the King Soopers.  They were glad to see them clean and individually bagged too. They said these would be used for those in need and they were so appreciative of our efforts. Note from me:  Thanks to everyone who contributed to this project! The police will give the blankets to people in situations where a blanket can provide some comfort. Your squares made 3 large patchwork blankets, and there were 2 smaller blankets as well.  I'm happy to keep the project going. You are welcome to keep making and contributing squares (rectangles), and I'll keep joining them up and passing them on to Twyla and Mary....
