 Hi knitters,  Our next meeting will be Wednesday, August 14, from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library.  We have a fun change of pace for this month: surprise projects! A big thanks to Giselle for organizing this and providing the yarn. I think it is called a white elephant.  Anyway, on the outside of the bag I have written the size needles needed and I have also noted if the yarn is wool free, as this was specifically requested. The vast majority of the bags call for size 8 needles and are hats but there are a few outlier patterns that range from size 6 to size 11 needles.  July's not over yet! Here are the two blanket square patterns: BLANKET SQUARE 13: OBLONG TEXTURE Cast on a multiple of 10 stitches plus 1. Row 1: K3, P5, (K5, P5) to last 3 sts, K3. Row 2: P3, K5, (P5, K5) to last 3 sts, P3. Row 3: Rep Row 2. Row 4: Rep Row 1. Repeat these 4 rows until piece measures 10 inches from cast on, ending with an even row. BLANKET SQUARE 14: BLUEBELL RIB Cast on a multiple of 5 stitches plus 2. Row 1: P2, (K3, P2) to end. Rows 2, 4, and 6: K2, (P3, K2) to end. Row 3: Rep Row 1. Row 5: P2, (YO, sl 1, K2tog, psso, YO, P2), rep to end. Repeat these 6 rows until piece measures 10 inches from cast on.

Hi knitters, I'm sorry for the late notice - TOMORROW, July 10 is our July meeting. We will meet from 3 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. We'll be making an old favorite: the short row hat. I know I've made a lot of these and I never get tired of them. The pattern is below (click on the image to enlarge). Please join us Wednesday, June 12 from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. Thanks to Katharine for this month's pattern, the Sunflower headband. The pattern and chart are below. You will need about an ounce of worsted weight yarn and circular needles in US #7 or 8 (4.5-5 mm). Make sure to go to the bottom of this post/email to see the blanket square patterns for June.  Sunflower Headband This pattern features a sunflower motif done in knit and purl stitches in the round. The motif is an 18 stitch repeat over 19 rows. The adult size has 5 pattern repeats and the child size has 4 pattern repeats, using worsted weight yarn on circular needles US size 7 or 8.  I used just over 1 ounce of Cascade 220 Superwash to complete the adult headband. My gauge measured 4 stitches per inch stockinette, blocked. Instructions: Cast on 90 stitches long-tail for Adult size, 72 stitches for Child size. Join in the round. We're sharing a hooded vest pattern (below), or you can make the sweater pictured above, a past pattern (there will be printed copies at the meeting). If you're making blanket squares, don't forget to scroll down to the end to get this month's squares.   Our 2 blanket square patterns this month are:  SQUARE 9: BLANKET RIB Cast on an odd number of stitches. Row 1: Knit into the front and back of each stitch Row 2: K2tog, then (P2tog, K2tog) across Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 10 inches from cast on, ending with row 2. SQUARE 10: WAFFLE STITCH Cast on a multiple of 3 stitches plus 1. Row 1: P1, then (K2, P1) across Row 2: K1, then (P2, K1) across Row 3: repeat row 1 Row 4: knit across Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 10 inches from cast on, ending with row 3 or 4.

We will be knitting a hat with a little bit of colorwork. As always, feel free to simplify the pattern to stripes or a solid hat if you don't want to do the colorwork.  You will need to bring worsted weight yarn in 2 colors and US 7 or 6 (4.5 - 5 mm) needles (see pattern below for details).  Also, I forgot the blanket square patterns last month, so I owe you 4 this month!   Our next meeting will be Wednesday, March 13, from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library.  The pattern for March is this striped and textured hat (pattern below, click to enlarge). You will need about 100 yards each of two colors of machine washable worsted weight yarn and a US 7 or 8 (4.5 or 5 mm) 16 inch circular needle and DPNs.  An update/correction on blanket squares: you don't have to seam them yourself, though you certainly can if you want to. Just bring finished squares, strips, or blankets to any meeting, and we'll make sure they all end up becoming blankets!  Roylene dropped off 60 hats at EFAA this month. There's plenty of cold weather left this season, so the hats will come in handy for families in need.  One more thing - Maggie and Judy from Shuttles will have some yarn for sale at the March meeting, and they will take cash or checks.
