  Hi knitters, Our next meeting is next Wednesday, August 12, from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. We will be making mittens. Diana created a basic folk-style (flat-topped, not cinched) mitten in a solid color. There is also a second pattern with some stranded colorwork for those who want an extra challenge. Remember to use wool yarn, as it works better for mittens. It doesn't need to be machine washable. Hope you can make it! Here is the basic solid color pattern:  And here is the colorwork version:

Hi knitters, Our July meeting is tomorrow, Wednesday the 8th, from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. We'll be making the double cuff hat, which gives you a fun way to make a nice neat edge. You can make it in two colors, as described in the pattern, or in all one color as shown above. Or you can make up your own stripe or colorblock pattern, changing colors whenever you like. Enjoy!

  Hi knitters, Please join us this Wednesday, June 10 from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. We'll be making this striped neck warmer knit in the round. You'll need worsted weight yarn in two colors and a US 8 circular needle. Unless you're a really loose knitter, I think a US 9 would work fine for this too. You can make it with curled stockinette edges as shown in the picture above, or you can do the optional ribbing if you want it to lie flatter (see last line of pattern below). Hope you can make it!

Hi knitters, Our next meeting is this Wednesday, May 13 from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. For May we’ll be making a very sweet baby sweater. It’s available for free from Madelinetosh yarn’s website. Go HERE to download a copy. You can see some pictures of it at the link. It’s a top-down seamless raglan that you can make with short or long sleeves. The pattern is written for DK weight yarn and US size 4 and 6 needles, but you can totally use worsted weight and US 7 or 8 needles and it will just make a roomier sweater. Also, using a smaller needle for the ribbing (as called for in the pattern) makes a nice finish, but if you don’t have one, it totally works to do the whole thing on one size needle - I’ve done it plenty of times! It comes in 3 sizes, and you can make any one you like, but we’ll probably be aiming for most of the sweaters to be the biggest size because it fits more kids for longer. If you do the long sleeves, you can add a little length...

Hi knitters, Our February meeting will be this Wednesday, February 11, from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. We will be making the Swirl Hat, pattern below. If you're not comfortable with 2-color knitting, you can just work 2-row stripes for an equally colorful hat. Or you could do a solid color hat with contrast ribbing at the beginning. This pattern has a cute way to finish the top of a hat - a little sewing required, but it's worth the small effort!

Hi knitters, Happy 2026! Our first meeting for this year is tomorrow, Wednesday, January 14, from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. We have a colorwork hat pattern for this month. You need worsted weight yarn in two colors and US 7 or 8 needles. If colorwork is not your thing, you can just work the 26 rows of the hat body all in one color or in stripes. Scroll down to see the pattern (and click on it to enlarge).  By the way, our counts for 2025 are in:  Hats: 1176 Sweaters: 5 Vests: 65 Scarves/cowls: 135 Mittens: 71 Bears: 121 Headbands: 10 Blankets: 2 Socks: 18 Booties: 16 Total: 1619 (up from 1390 last year) Kits: 70  

  Hi knitters! Hope everyone got inspired by the snow and is getting in some fun holiday knitting. Our next meeting is Wednesday, December 10, from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. We will be making scarves with built-in handwarmer pockets (see pattern below). You'll need US 8 (5mm) needles and worsted weight yarn - 100 grams in the main color and 25 grams in a contrasting color for the pockets. I think this pattern would look cute in random stripes too, with or without pockets, in case you have some leftovers to use up.  Keep scrolling for some photos from our annual sort - some sweet gift sets and lots of bears! 

Hi knitters, Please join us tomorrow, Wednesday, November 12, from 3 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. We have two hat patterns for this month (see end of the post). Each uses worsted weight yarn in two colors. They're shown here in red and green, but you can get creative and maybe use a bunch of colors and do some stashbusting.  If you want to size them up or down or adjust for a different gauge, the squares hat cast on needs to be a multiple of 4 and 6 and the four corners hat needs to be a multiple of 4. Or if you switched from 2x2 to 1x1 ribbing, the squares hat would just need to be a multiple of 6 and the four corners an even number.  Other updates: There will be a meeting in December (the 10th). The final dropoff for our holiday donation will be on November 28 from 3-4 at Meadows library.    We are also taking donations of new/gently used children's books or cash donations to buy books.   Hope you can make it! 

 Hi all, Our next meeting is this Wednesday, October 8, from 3 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public library. We have 2 mitten patterns, a textured mitten knit flat and a basic mitten that knits up fast in the round.    The textured pattern is available to download HERE .  The basic knit in the round pattern is available to download HERE   and a modified version of it is pasted below.  We encourage you to knit mittens with wool yarn (doesn't have to be superwash), as it stays warm when wet. 

 Hi knitters, For our September meeting, we will be making our little stuffed bears, or, as an easier option, kittens. You’ll need worsted weight yarn and US 6 (4mm) needles. Info is at the end of the post, and printed patterns will be available too. Hope you can make it this Wednesday, September 10, from 3 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. Over the years, our "beary godmother" Linda has made hundreds (maybe thousands?) of bears for children in need. She truly is Queen of the Bears! Thank you to Linda for being such a generous, dedicated, and kind member of our community. 

Hi knitters, Our next meeting is next Wednesday, August 13, from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. We will be making a simple worsted weight cowl. You can make it one color, or you can do stripes, which is nice for using up leftovers. See below for the pattern and materials. We also need more children's vests and sweaters for the kits we give away at the holidays. You can use any of our previously shared patterns, or I also like these free patterns from Tin Can Knits.  Hi knitters, Sorry for the missed email last month - I was traveling and had technical issues. I was able to get the post up on the website: bouldercommunityknitting.com. You can always check this website if for some reason an email doesn't come through.  Our next meeting is Wednesday, July 9 from 3 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. We'll be making a pattern that Ellen found. It's by designer Amanda Saladin, and it's available as a free pattern at the designer's website HERE .  Or if you'd like a formatted pdf version, it's available for purchase on Ravelry HERE . The hat uses chunky yarn and US 10.5 needles and is knit back and forth without shaping and seamed at the end. I think it would work well with worsted weight yarn held double. Ellen's modifications for worsted weight on US 8 needles are to cast on 32 (40) stitches and to purl 27 (33) stitches at the beginning of row 2.  Hope you can make it!

Hi knitters, Our next meeting is Wednesday, May 14 from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. For May we have two vest patterns. One is a set with a coordinating vest and hat, and the other is the vest version of the side-to-side sweater we did a while back. Please see below for photos and patterns. There will also be paper copies of the patterns at the meeting. Hope you can make it! 

Hi knitters! Our next meeting is Wednesday, April 9 from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library.  We will be making baby booties knit flat, using DK or light worsted weight yarn and US 6 (4 mm) needles.  This pattern incorporates some interesting techniques like short-row shaping, a simple cable, and a seam to pull them together. The nice thing about knitting them flat is that you don't have to manage 4 to 5 double points with a very small piece of knitting. It looks like they knit up pretty quickly - you might not be able to stop at just one pair!
