Refugee sweaters: Update and pattern links

Thanks to Roxana Bartlett, Lori Tomatz and Eleri Robinson, there were enough little sweaters (and some hats too) to fill a box to be sent to Wales, United Kingdom!

Once in Wales the knit-wear will join some 2020 other little sweaters that will be taken to a refugee camp in France at the end of the year.

Eleri plans to send a second shipment at the end of September, early October so if anyone has a little sweater to send to Wales please bring it along to the next Community Knitting gathering (September 16) and it will get to its destination!

You can find Roxana's free pattern here with a correction here.

Another easy beginner sweater pattern that's free is Flax from Tin Can Knits. And I had lots of fun with another pattern/recipe of theirs (not free), Strange Brew

  1. Hello! My name is Kathy. I am Looking for help with this project. We are a group of crafters organizing at the grassroots level. We are looking for addresses in swing states for receiving items and distribution of items. This could be you or organizations you may know of in Co. See below my initial posts on Instagram explaining a little more- we will be refining the posts shortly. Thank you for considering this, Kathy(@katherine.kdm).

August: Cowlapalooza

Our next meeting will be Wednesday, August 6 from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library.  For August, we have SIX free cowl patterns that you can knit. Pick one or two, or knit them all! They are:  1. Oats by Tin Can Knits 2. Just Try It by Susan Ashcroft 3. Convertible Biking Cowl by Cris Dvic (can be knitted in a solid color, no image) 4. Cable and Seed (Giselle adapted my hat pattern from a few months ago to a cowl) 5. Simple Yet Effective by Tin Can Knits 6. Mistake Rib Cowl by Purl Soho You can go to the links above or pick up a printed copy at the August meeting. All of the patterns use worsted weight yarn, and you should generally be fine with US 7 or 8 (4.5-5 mm) 16 inch circular needles. If you don't have enough of one color, you could colorblock or stripe and use up some leftovers. In addition, we received a large yarn donation from Sister Carmen, so come and stock up for future Community Knitting projects! Hope to see you there.

April cables (or not)

Our next meeting will be this Wednesday, April 12, from 3:00 to 4:30 at the Meadows branch of the Boulder Public Library. Our project is a child's hat that you can make with or without cables. You'll need about 2 ounces of worsted weight yarn, US size 7 or 8 (4.5-5mm) 16 inch circular and double point needles, a cable needle if you are working the cable version, and 8 stitch markers, one unique for the beginning of the round. You can find the pattern HERE . Hope you can make it!

Vest and hat pattern for May

I have May’s vest and hat pattern earlier than promised! The pattern is courtesy of Roxana, and it’s very beginner-friendly, even if you’ve never knit a garment before. Roylene made the sweet sample pictured above. This month I’m just posting the two pages of the pattern as images here in the post. To enlarge them, you should just be able to click on the image.  Can you wait until tomorrow to cast on? I can’t!
